The OCB opens the candidacies for the 31st of December awards, which this year reach their 40th edition

PalmaThe Obra Cultural Balear (OCB) has announced the 40th edition of the 31st of December awards, awards that recognize individual and collective initiatives linked to the promotion and use of the Catalan language and the defense of the identity of the Balearic Islands.

The awards are open to individuals, groups, companies, entities, and public and private organizations that are proposed by the Board of Directors of the OCB, by any of its delegations, by at least three members, or by the members of the jury. Candidacy proposals can also be sent directly to the board of directors, which will decide whether to forward them to the jury.

The candidacies must be accompanied by a report justifying the proposal and must include the category for which it is applying, the details of the candidates and the proposed entity, and the details of the person submitting the candidacy. In the case of the Miquel dels Sants Oliver award, the title of the published work must also be indicated.

The deadline for submitting candidacies will begin this Thursday, September 18, and will end on October 16, 2026. Proposals can be submitted to the OCB Secretariat, at 24 Sant Alonso Street, Palma, or via the email secretaria@ocb.cat.

The awards correspond to the following categories:

Francesc de Borja Moll

Intended to reward an institution, association, entity or group, of a public or private nature, that has stood out for its dedication to the defense, dissemination or promotion of the language, culture and identity of the Balearic Islands.

Josep Maria Llompart

Intended to reward a person who has distinguished themselves for their trajectory in the defense, dissemination, or promotion of the language, culture, and identity of the Balearic Islands.

Emili Darder

Intended to reward an initiative, project, experience, or personal or collective trajectory in the field of education, teaching, or leisure and, in a special way, those that tend to promote the use of Catalan in formal and non-formal educational settings.

Climent Garau

Intended to reward individuals, entities, initiatives, or projects that, from the field of communication, contribute to the social use of the Catalan language: media outlets, production companies, programs, professionals, content creators, dissemination platforms, etc.

Bartomeu Oliver

Intended to reward individuals, entities, initiatives, or projects that have contributed to cultural revitalization or the recovery or promotion of popular culture.

Miquel dels Sants Oliver

Intended to reward a non-literary work that has been published during the period between the call for awards of the previous year and the current one, which deals with rigor on a topic related to the sciences or humanities and is of special interest to the Balearic Islands.

Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel

Intended to reward a person under thirty years of age, or a group of young people, who has excelled in any field of culture in the Balearic Islands.

Aina Moll i Marquès

Intended to reward a person or entity that has distinguished itself for carrying out, through volunteering, activities for the defense, promotion, and dissemination of the Catalan language in the Balearic Islands.

Joan Alcover

Intended to reward a person with a solid and recognized career in the field of literary creation in the Catalan language.

Gabriel Alomar

The board of directors of the OCB grants this award intended to recognize the excellence of a continuous civic, cultural, or linguistic endeavor, carried out by individuals or entities in any Catalan-speaking land.
