PalmThere are days when the street stops being just a passageway and becomes a thread of complicities, symbols, and shared language. This Saturday, the Llevant of Mallorca experienced one of these days with the arrival of the Correllengua Agermanat, which filled towns and public spaces with popular culture, protest, and massive participation in defense of Catalan.

The Flama de la Llengua (Flame of the Language) arrived in Mallorca by sea from Menorca and touched land in Cala Rajada, from where it began a journey through the Llevant of the island. The route passed through Capdepera, Artà, Son Servera, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Manacor, Vilafranca de Bonany, Porreres, and Felanitx, where the Flama was received with diverse activities in each municipality.

At each of the stops, cultural and popular culture proposals were organized with outstanding participation from local collectives. Various sports teams participated in the transport of the Flama, which was also received by giants, big-heads, devils, music bands, glosadors, and charangas, in a display of tradition and collective expression.

The main glosadores of the island performed in Manacor and Felanitx, while in other municipalities local personalities were in charge of reading the Correllengua manifesto. In Vilafranca de Bonany, this act was carried out by the singer Tomeu Penya.

During the final speeches, the spokespersons for Joves de Mallorca per la Llengua, Maria Maians and Josep Buades, claimed the role of organized youth in the defense of Catalan and highlighted the dimension of the project: “Young people are here, organized youth have taken a step forward throughout the Catalan Countries these weeks, and this step is called Correllengua Agermanat”.
