'A walk through El Born' wins the award for best European film at a French festival
The film's director has denounced that the Consell de Mallorca failed to fulfill the commitment to contribute an economic amount to the film
PalmaThe Mallorcan production Un passeig pel Born, directed by Mallorcan Nick Igea, has won the award for best European film at the Bretagne International Film Festival, in France. With this recognition, the film has accumulated 48 international awards obtained at festivals organized in cities such as Vienna, Sydney, London, Paris, Florence, New York, and Los Angeles.
The film has also been screened in countries such as Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Mexico, the United States, Bolivia, Colombia, and Tanzania. The feature film stars Rodolfo Sancho, Ruth Gabriel, and Natalia Verbeke, and features Balearic performers such as Lluís Oliver, Toni Lluís Reyes, Pere Orell, Toni Pons, Jaume Fuster, and Lina Mira.
The film premiered at the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest in 2024 and later arrived in Spanish cinemas. At the beginning of 2025, it began its tour of international festivals, which is still ongoing. The production is available on the Amazon Prime Video platform and will soon be broadcast on IB3 Televisió. The production has had the support of the Institute of Cultural Industries of the Balearic Islands (ICIB), IB3, the Palma City Council, and the Madrid City Council, among other institutions.
Controversy with the Council
Igea has recently reported that the Consell de Mallorca failed to fulfill its commitment to contribute a financial amount to the film after requesting that its logo appear in the credits with the phrase 'with the support of'. According to the director and producer's version, the island institution informed him two years later that it would not disburse the agreed amount, despite the fact that the logo had already appeared during the film's exhibition in theaters, digital platforms, and international festivals.
