Education incorporates a new teacher in Son Sardina and Miquel Roldán will only support

Representatives of the Family Association consider the measure "insufficient."

PalmThe Ministry of Education's response to the controversy at Son Sardina over the presence of Miquel Roldán has been to send a new teacher to take over the sixth grade tutoring role and assign Roldán support duties for the third cycle (fifth and sixth grades), always accompanied by the respective tutors for that year.

This was communicated by Educació this Thursday afternoon in a meeting between family representatives on the School Council and members of the AFA Board following the outright rejection by parents at CEIP Maria Antònia Salvà to Miquel Roldán taking over the tutoring role for the last year of Primary School.

In this way, Roldán will continue at the school to perform support duties "without ever being alone with the students," the Ministry stated. Likewise, the Inspectorate has requested the activation of the joint committee (made up of technicians, administration, and unions) to assess whether a psychological evaluation for Miquel Roldán is warranted.

However, these measures are considered "insufficient" by AFA representatives, since from the outset the parents have made it clear that they are "not satisfied" and do not want Miquel Roldán to continue teaching.

It should be remembered that, in 2023, the teacher was sentenced to one year in prison and was found guilty of a crime ofharassment of a minor, but he was not disqualified. When it was made public that Miquel Roldán would be the teacher of the 6th grade students at the Son Sardina school, the parents sent a letter in which they stated that his mere presence at the center "generates alarm, distrust and fear", and they emphasized that their children have "the right to grow and learn in a protected environment and to learn."

Faced with the inaction of the Education Department, the parents began a protest and this Thursday was the second day in which the students of the educational center have not attended school as a symbol of rejection of the teacher's presence, and sources from the AFA emphasize that "they will continue fighting." The protest was fully attended, and the parents themselves organized to offer a daycare service at the neighborhood center for those families who could not care for their children or leave them with anyone.

Education, "firm hands and feet"

The Ministry of Education emphasizes that they "do not have the authority" to disqualify the teacher and that "the only thing they can do" is implement these preventive measures. Thus, they emphasize that they have requested, on several occasions, that the Ministry of Education expand the offenses included in the Law on the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents from Violence to define the requirements for access to professions, trades, or activities that involve regular contact with minors. However, Minister Antoni Vera reported this Thursday that The Spanish government does not plan legislative changes to prevent a teacher convicted of harassing a former student from being able to teach.

The problem, according to both the Ministry and the Regional Ministry, is that the court convicted him of harassing a minor, not sexually harassing a minor. This change in the sentence means Roldán can continue teaching, and there is currently no possibility of reversing the situation. In fact, Vera noted that when the sentence was issued, the Regional Attorney's Office asked the judge to disqualify him from teaching, but was denied.

"We are standing firm because if, on the one hand, the joint committee doesn't support us, and on the other, the courts tell us we can't disqualify him, we have no other option," the minister stated.

It's also worth remembering that Roldán's connection with Son Sardina goes back years. "He was my son's tutor in fifth and sixth grade, until one day he disappeared," explains an AFA mother. On December 24, 2022, the teacher, who is also a singer-songwriter, set off alarm bells among his family and friends when they He sent a farewell letter and published his "last song" on social media. In the song, he explained that life isn't always what it seems and that there were many things about the reality he lived that everyone didn't know. Days later, he showed signs of life and said he had never thought of suicide. Meanwhile, police officers and citizens They searched for him for days thinking he might be dead.
