Gabriel Le Senne (Vox) criticizes IES Portocristo for making sexual diversity visible

PalmThe Speaker of Parliament and leader of Vox in the Balearic Islands, Gabriel Le Senne, has criticized the murals dedicated to promoting sexual diversity located at the Portocristo Secondary School. The murals depict couples kissing. The Vox leader made the statements in front of the school, which he pointed out directly. Le Senne asserted that these types of initiatives "indoctrinate our young people with specific ideologies" and announced that his party will demand the mural's removal.

"We are here at the Portocristo Secondary School, looking at this ideological mural which, as we have seen in so many schools in the Balearic Islands, indoctrinates our young people with specific ideologies. And that is unacceptable. Vox will demand its removal," he declared. The Speaker of Parliament argued that "respecting all people, regardless of their race, religion, or sexual orientation, is one thing, and promoting certain sexual orientations is another." "This has no justification," he added.

The statements are part of Vox's recurring discourse on the education system. The party systematically accuses schools of indoctrinating students with certain ideologies, especially in initiatives related to sexual and gender diversity. In this case, Le Senne cited the mural at the Portocristo high school as an example to denounce what he considers the promotion of these ideas in Balearic schools. It's worth remembering that the current education law (LOMLOE), which is organic and mandatory, protects the teaching of sexual diversity. Beyond this, schools use the tools they deem appropriate to achieve the objectives of each grade and stage.

UOB Ensenyament has expressed its rejection of Le Senne's statements. The union defends academic freedom and teacher autonomy, and considers it unacceptable to accuse schools and professionals of indoctrination, since "every time a school or a teacher is attacked, the entire group is targeted." UOB warns that these types of attacks are part of a strategy by VOX and its supporters to disempower teachers and promote hate speech, and encourages society to defend "a quality public school, in Catalan and open to everyone." Finally, the union expresses its solidarity with IES Porto Cristo and urges the teaching community to oppose the fascist policies that threaten public education.

This is not the first time Vox has targeted educational or outreach initiatives in Manacor. Last year, the party presented a motion against educational tours about the Spanish Civil War in the municipality, accusing these activities of "indoctrination" and being "sectarian." The tours, linked to the dissemination of historical memory and led by historian Lourdes Melis, received support at the time from various local organizations and political groups, who criticized the public targeting by the far-right party. This week, the People's Party (PP) and Vox repealed the Democratic Memory Law.
