PalmaThe Es Liceu teaching cooperative, the Association of Families of Students (AFA), and the neighbors have filed a joint complaint regarding the repeated burning of tires, plastics, and other materials on a property adjacent to the educational center in Palma. The educational community is warning of the risk that the fumes may pose to the health of the children and the center's staff, and asserts that they have been reporting the incidents for over two years without the situation being resolved.
On November 25, 2025, the school sent a letter to the Palma Local Police to request their intervention. In the document, the center warned of a situation of “concern and vulnerability” that affects “the safety and well-being of our students and the center's staff.” According to the letter, on the property, where the school claims there is an occupation, habitual burning of plastics, tires, and other materials takes place, in addition to waste dumping. The center maintains that these practices generate “toxic smoke and odors,” with the subsequent risk to the health of the educational community. It also reports that the surroundings have become an “insalubrious and potentially dangerous” space due to the accumulation of waste.
In the letter, Es Liceu explains that it has repeatedly notified the 112 Emergency service each time a fire has occurred. “We have been doing so continuously for over 2 years,” notes the document, which laments not having observed “any effective action or any improvement in the situation.” “This lack of response leaves us in a situation of defenselessness,” state the center's sources, who are demanding police intervention and coordination with the competent municipal and regional services to ensure the protection of the students and workers.
General unrest
After receiving the communication, the Police indicated to the center that it had to file a formal complaint, a procedure that the management of Es Liceu ended up doing. According to the information provided by the educational community, neighbors in the area have also reported the events and assert that, although there have been evictions from the property on several occasions, the problem persists.
The school states that it has exhausted the administrative channels to try to put an end to the situation and that it has videos in which the color of the smoke from the burnings, the accumulated waste, and the vehicles parked on the property can be observed. The indicated space is located on the Son Dolça road, in polygon 27, plot 26, in Palma. The educational community demands action that will allow an end to the burnings and dumping and prevent them from continuing to affect the school's surroundings.
