PalmaThe University of Mallorca (Umac), the first private university in the Balearic Islands, has appointed Dr. Pere Riutord Sbert as the institution's new rector. The center's board of trustees has entrusted the academic direction of the project to one of the most recognized names in the field of odontology in the Islands, with a long teaching, research, and university management career.
Born in Felanitx in 1960, Riutord holds a doctorate in Medicine and Surgery and is a specialist in Stomatology. Throughout his career, he has developed intense activity linked to health sciences, combining clinical practice with teaching and research.
As reported by the university in a statement, the new rector assumes the position with the aim of contributing to the consolidation of Umac as an academic project at the service of Balearic society, based on teaching excellence, innovation, research, and knowledge transfer.
Riutord has expressed gratitude for the trust and assured that he faces this new stage "with humility, enthusiasm, and a firm commitment to service" towards the entire university community.
A career linked to the university and odontology
The new rector has extensive experience in the academic field. He has taught at the University of Barcelona and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and, more recently, at the ADEMA University School, a center affiliated with the UIB, where he has also held various academic and management responsibilities.
At the same time, he has developed a distinguished institutional career in the dental sector. He has presided over the Balearic Society of Odontoestomatology, the Official College of Dentists and Stomatologists of the Balearic Islands, the Spanish Academy of Odontology Pierre Fauchard, and the National Association of Autonomous Dentists of Spain.
The challenge of consolidating Umac
The appointment of Riutord arrives at a key moment for the University of Mallorca, which is immersed in the process of deploying its academic model. The institution aspires to become a new player within the university ecosystem of the Balearic Islands, with an offering focused on higher education, research, and talent acquisition.
With this appointment, Umac opts for a profile with experience in both the university field and the management of professional organizations, with the aim of strengthening its positioning in the early years of the trajectory of the first private university in the Balearic Islands.
