The Aemet activates the orange alert for heat in Mallorca with temperatures up to 39 degrees
The interior and the south of the island will be the most affected areas by the episode, which coincides with the maximum level of forest fire risk
PalmaMallorca faces one of the hottest days of the summer this Sunday. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow alert for high temperatures in the south and interior of the island, where thermometers could reach 39 degrees.
The alert will be in effect between 12 PM and 8 PM in these areas. Intense heat is also expected in the rest of Mallorca and Menorca, with highs between 37 and 38 degrees, which is why the yellow alert remains in place.
Given this situation, the 112 Emergency service has activated the orange alert of the Meteobal Plan in Mallorca and the yellow alert in Menorca. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day, drink water frequently, wear light clothing, seek cool places, and avoid intense physical activity between 12 PM and 4 PM. It is also reminded that children, the elderly, or animals should not be left in parked vehicles.
Maximum fire risk
The heat episode coincides with a level 4 risk of forest fire in Mallorca and a large part of Menorca, the highest on the scale. This situation implies the prohibition of lighting fires in forest areas and the suspension of authorizations for agricultural burning, given the very high risk that a fire could break out and spread.
