PalmaThe management of Health areas will no longer fall solely to doctors. Nurses will also be able to exercise this leadership in accordance with an amendment by the PP to the capital city law that has received the support of the PSIB, MÉS per Mallorca, and Unides Podem. Once the text is definitively approved, the management of the basic health zone will be opened to these healthcare professionals and the rest of the healthcare personnel of the A2 subgroup, such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists. They will also be able to receive remuneration in accordance with this responsibility.

Thus, the area director will maintain maximum authority over the area and overall management of human and material resources. However, in the event that it is a nurse, the amendment provides for the parallel activation of a Medical coordination that integrates into the management team to ensure the "technical leadership and autonomy" of tasks related to medical care. This coordination body will therefore become a mandatory position.
The amendment also redefines the concept of the Primary Care team as the set of health and non-health professionals in charge of health care in the basic area. It is established that the area director is the maximum authority of the basic health area and the one who assumes the direction of the Primary Care team. In parallel, it maintains the Nursing coordination, and makes it mandatory in the case that the area director is a doctor. The coordination of Admission and Citizen Attention is also provided for, in charge of administrative staff and support processes of the center.
The General Council of Official Nursing Colleges has echoed the news. In a press release, it highlighted that this modification responds to a demand from the collective and corrects a situation that, as a result of the interpretation of state regulations by the Supreme Court, reserved these management positions for professionals of the A1 subgroup.
