PalmaEducational centers in Mallorca, Ibiza, and Formentera will not have in-person classes this Monday, October 19, due to the risk of new intense rainfall and flooding. The Ministry of Education has made the decision following the instructions of the General Directorate of Emergencies, while the monitoring of DANA Adam continues. In Menorca, however, school activity is maintained as normal according to the current forecast.

Notice shared on social media.

The suspension comes after an especially complicated day in the Pityusic Islands. Between 10 p.m. Saturday and 5:30 p.m. this Sunday, 112 had recorded 98 incidents: 53 in Formentera, 38 in Ibiza, and seven in Mallorca, mainly due to flooding on public roads and in establishments.

Around 7 p.m., Civil Protection-112 sent a new ES-Alert message to mobile phones to warn of the worsening situation. The warning asks to exercise extreme caution in the face of intense rain and strong gusts of wind, to stay away from streams, ravines, and flood-prone areas, and to avoid basements and low-lying points. It also recommends moving to higher floors if water enters a home and reminds that school activities are suspended this Monday in Mallorca, Ibiza, and Formentera.

Given the forecast that the storm will continue to affect the Islands, the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) has begun deploying personnel in Ibiza and Mallorca to reinforce the emergency services' operation. The Government maintains monitoring activated from the Integrated Operational Coordination Center.

Education has already communicated the suspension to management teams, families, and students. Emergency services ask not to let one's guard down during lulls in the rain, to avoid unnecessary travel, to stay away from streams, not to cross flooded areas, and to avoid basements or garages with a risk of flooding.
