A couple is under investigation for assaulting a taxi driver after an argument in Palma.

PalmThe Palma Local Police are investigating a couple, a 33-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, both Spanish nationals, as the alleged perpetrators of minor assault and property damage after they attacked a taxi driver and damaged his vehicle following a traffic dispute in Palma. According to a press release from the police force, the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit has opened an investigation into the incident, which occurred in the early hours of January 1st, at approximately 5:15 a.m., on Gabriel Maura Street. A patrol from the Local Police's night unit was called to the scene, where they found three people struggling. According to the taxi driver, the argument began when the couple, who were crossing at a pedestrian crossing, criticized his driving. Later, they insulted him, and the woman began hitting the hood of the vehicle, breaking the taxi's side mirror. When the driver got out of the vehicle, both the man and the woman assaulted him, causing minor injuries to his face and hands. The couple then tried to leave, but the taxi driver detained them until the police arrived. The couple gave conflicting accounts of the events and showed signs of having consumed alcohol. Two eyewitnesses fully corroborated the taxi driver's version of events, and he subsequently filed a formal complaint at the police station. Once the investigation was completed, the couple was informed that they were under investigation, and the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit forwarded the corresponding case file to the competent court.
