Investigated a drunk driver for causing an accident with injured people in Palma

The man, 31 years old, tested positive for alcohol and refused to repeat the test after the accident

PalmaThe Local Police of Palma is investigating a 31-year-old driver for causing an accident with injuries and subsequently refusing to undergo a second alcohol test. The events took place in the early hours of March 28 in the center of Palma.

As reported by the police force, the accident occurred around 2:15 AM at the intersection of 31 de Desembre and Antoni Marquès streets. According to the reconstruction of events, the driver was traveling towards the Avingudes when he overtook another vehicle on the right lane and crossed the intersection against a red light.

This maneuver caused a collision with another car that was correctly traveling on Antoni Marquès street with a green light. As a result of the impact, the affected driver suffered multiple contusions and a left leg injury, for which he had to be transferred by ambulance to a medical center.

Officers detected that the responsible driver showed obvious signs of intoxication. In a first indicative test, he registered a result of 0.85 milligrams per liter of exhaled air, a rate far exceeding the permitted limit. Despite this, the man refused to perform the second mandatory test.

For these actions, the Local Police informed him of his status as a non-detained suspect for an alleged offense of refusing to undergo alcohol tests. Furthermore, he was also administratively reported for not respecting the red light.

The police report has been sent to the Court of First Instance of Palma, which will be responsible for continuing with the investigation of the case.
