Lloret puts order to the outfits of the Sequer festival

LloretWith the next edition of the Sequer festival in mind, which will be held this Saturday, August 29, the organization of the Lloret de Vistalegre festival has called on citizens, and especially families, for boys and girls participating in the traditional parade to dress in accordance with traditional Mallorcan attire.

Through an informative note, the organization recalls the minimum items that children should wear and asks to avoid certain modern elements that, as it points out, distort the authenticity of the peasant costumes.

In the case of boys, the attire must include a headscarf, a shirt, a chest protector, a sash, breeches with puffs, dark trousers, and traditional footwear, such as espadrilles, avarcas, or porqueres.

As for the girls, the dress must consist of a bodice, a skirt, an apron, sleeves, dark trousers, espadrilles, and, on the head, a hat or a coif and a scarf tied under the chin.

Neither sneakers nor painted nails

The organization also specifies which items should not be used during the parade: sports shoes, lace trim, makeup, painted nails, and sunglasses.

The request is part of the desire to preserve traditional clothing and maintain the aesthetic coherence of a festival that revives the customs and way of dressing of the peasants of Mallorca.

A paradigmatic example of this care for tradition can be found at the festivities of the Beata of Santa Margalida, where the City Council and local entities regularly publish very strict recommendations and rules regarding attire for the popular procession, and remind that both participants and even authorities must comply with fabric changes, the shape of the bodices, and the prohibition of anachronistic elements to keep alive the essence of what is considered one of the island's most typical processions.

With this step, Lloret reaffirms its commitment to the dissemination of intangible heritage and invites everyone to enjoy the Sequer festival with the utmost authenticity.
