Manacor opens the new school year peacefully with 7,500 students enrolled
The City Council called a meeting with the management teams of the primary and secondary schools to ensure a smooth return to the classrooms.

PalmSchools in the municipality of Manacor have reopened their doors to welcome students in Early Childhood, Primary, Compulsory Secondary, Baccalaureate, and Special Education, marking the start of the 2025-2026 school year. This year, Manacor has an approximate number of students of 7,500, according to the first municipal data, practically identical to the 7,481 last year.
The Manacor City Council, aware of the importance of an orderly and safe return to classes, convened a meeting last week with the management teams of the municipality's Primary and Secondary schools. This meeting, chaired by the mayor, Miquel Oliver, was attended by political representatives: the Delegate for Education, Carme Gomila; the Delegate for Public Spaces and General Services, Joana Maria Llull; members of the Local Police; and education inspectors. The objective was to coordinate efforts and establish effective communication between schools and the local administration.
One of the central topics of the meeting was the presentation of a new traffic calming measure around schools. This action builds on the road safety and sustainable mobility initiatives implemented during the previous term, aiming to improve safety at student entrances and exits. Furthermore, the non-school days for the 2025-2026 school year were jointly agreed upon: October 31, 2025, November 3, 2025, March 3, 2026, and May 4, 2026, offering clear planning for families and teachers.
More than 50,000 euros in improvements
Regarding the centers' infrastructure, this summer the Manacor City Council has allocated 53,327 euros to maintenance and improvement work. These investments have included painting and improving interior and exterior spaces, cleaning and adapting playgrounds, replacing lighting with more efficient LED systems, and performing safety checks such as inspecting fire extinguishers and emergency lights. Minor work has also been carried out on the sports and playground facilities, with the aim of starting the new school year with renovated and safe spaces.
The Education Delegate, Carme Gomila, offered words of encouragement and support to the entire educational community: "I want to wish all the children, families, teaching teams, and staff at Manacor's educational centers a very good return to the classroom. The start of the school year is always a time of excitement and shared challenges to ensure the best possible environment for growing, learning, and living together."
