Parliament will demand that Congress co-manage the Balearic airports
The PP supports an initiative by MÁS per Mallorca and Más per Menorca
PalmParliament will call for the creation of a special committee on the Balearic Islands' airports to oversee airport co-management. Más per Mallorca and Más per Menorca have presented an initiative to this effect, which also has the support of the People's Party (PP). Therefore, it is expected to pass.
In a joint press conference, the eco-sovereignists presented the motion, which proposes that the reports prepared by the island airport committees be binding on decisions regarding airport management and planning. Once approved, the text will be sent to Congress for a vote.
"It is necessary to move towards co-management," said PP spokesperson Sebastià Sagreras. "It cannot be only the Government that makes efforts to limit the entry of tourists; it is important to address the entry points," he asserted. "The PP is working to contain tourism by land, sea, and air," he affirmed. The parliamentary group has been critical in recent months of Aena's management of the airport. First Vice President, Antoni CostaHe assumed in the plenary session that the company had carried out a covert expansion of Palma airport.
The deputy spokesperson for the PSIB, Marc Pons, avoided clarifying how his parliamentary group would vote. "It's important that the agreements reached here are approved in Congress," he warned, alluding to the PP. When asked about this, Sagreras guaranteed that the PP would also vote in favor of the initiative in Congress: "Obviously, we're not going to process a law in the Balearic Parliament if we haven't spoken with our colleagues."
