PalmaWork is piling up for the parliamentary groups for next week. The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, presented a document this Tuesday to the Parliament in which she proposes October 20th as the date for the general policy debate. It will be the last of the legislature in which the President will report on her Government's actions and it will foreseeably be framed in electoral terms.

In the text addressed to the President of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne, Prohens, who is on an official trip to Brussels, informed that the Government Council last Friday chose this date. Thus, she requests that he apply Article 181.1 of the Chamber's regulations and convene the annual debate. Furthermore, she explains that it could be developed over several sessions, so it may last for a few days.

The spokesperson for the PSIB parliamentary group, Iago Negueruela, has censured that Prohens made the call without first notifying the groups, as is appropriate for "parliamentary courtesy". He also criticized that the first vice-president and spokesperson for the Government, Antoni Costa, said last Friday that he did not know when it would be held, despite the fact that the date had just been decided at the Government Council meeting. Likewise, he insisted that his party will be "prepared" for the debate.

In the last general policy debate, the president emphasized the anti-immigration discourse and spoke about the demographic challenge of the Islands. At a time of broken relations with Vox, she avoided putting any major announcements on the table. On this occasion, and with the harmony with the far-right now recovered, the general policy debate will be tinged with a marked electoral tone, as it will take place a few weeks before the official start of the campaign for the general elections on November 29.

The PP and Vox refuse to hold a minute of silence for Maricarmen

In fact, in this Tuesday's plenary session there was already a clash between the parties over the case of Maricarmen, the evicted woman who led the Spanish government to promote two anti-eviction decrees and who died in the hospital, after being evicted from her home at 87 years old. The President of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne, rejected the PSIB's request to hold a minute of silence in her memory, alleging that there was no consensus among the groups to do so, even though he had not even asked them.

After the spokesperson for MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, reproached him for it, he proceeded to ask the question to each group. The left was in favor, Vox against, and the PP limited itself to saying that "it is evident that there is no unanimity". Even so, PSIB deputy Carol Marquès took advantage of the first question of the control session to the Government to hold a minute of silence for Maricarmen, which the entire left joined.
