PalmaThe Civil Guard has arrested a 52-year-old man accused of stealing a boat valued at over one million euros from the port of Sóller and attempting to ram the patrol boats pursuing him as he fled towards Ibiza. The operation, in which a helicopter and two boats from the Maritime Service participated, lasted approximately half an hour.

The events began on Sunday morning, when the 112 Emergency Service alerted to the disappearance of a boat owned by a nautical rental company. The company's collaboration made it possible to know its position and confirm that it was sailing with a man and a woman on board.

The Civil Guard mobilized a helicopter from the Air Service and two patrol boats from the Provincial Maritime Service to locate the boat and intercept it. Finally, the agents found it around the island of Tagomago, near Ibiza and more than 100 kilometers from the port from which it had departed.

Once the boat was located, the civil guards repeatedly ordered the skipper to stop the engines. The man ignored the requests and, according to the armed institute, attempted to ram the patrol boats during the maritime and aerial pursuit.

After approximately half an hour, the skipper desisted and the agents were able to board and recover the boat. The Civil Guard has not reported any personal injuries during the intervention nor has it clarified the situation of the woman traveling on board.

The suspect, originally from Eastern Europe, was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a boat theft offense, an offense of assault against authority agents, and another of disobedience.
