The deputy for Formentera demands the resignation of Lafuente for the sunbed case: "Who has decided the criteria for the files?"

PalmaThe deputy for Formentera in the Parliament, Llorenç Córdoba, demanded this Tuesday in the plenary session the resignation of the Minister of the Sea, Juan Manuel Lafuente, due to his management of the General Directorate of Coasts. The parliamentarian has supported the PP on almost all issues except for the repeal of the memory law this legislative term, but with the changes in criteria regarding the concession of sunbeds in Formentera, he has drawn a red line. After the general director was dismissed for establishing a requirement that was in line with technical criteria, Córdoba asked himself "who really set" the criteria that were finally applied to the Coast files during this legislative term: "The technicians and civil servants or the political leaders?".

"I am not asking for more or fewer sun loungers, for you to remove the kiosks or for you to maintain them: that must be determined by the law, the files, and the technical criteria," he said. Córdoba pointed out that the technical report applied by the director general with the support of 21 civil servants was modified after her dismissal for a less restrictive one, and that her replacement, Joan Jaume Mulet, signed it in just 11 minutes. "If the beaches were the same, the facilities were the same, and the technical report was the same, someone will have to explain to us what changed," he insisted. The deputy recalled that the plenary session of the Consell de Formentera had already censured Lafuente by an absolute majority.

Lafuente blames the left

In his response to Parliament, Lafuente attributed the origin of the problem to the management of the Council of Formentera in 2022, under a progressive government. He asserted that an "underfunded" transfer of powers was carried out. Thus, he ensured that the renewal of the authorizations for the sun loungers was done "by the civil servants" and the results "are practically those that the Coastal Demarcation had set".
