PalmFirst Vice President and Government Spokesperson Antoni Costa expressed his hope this Friday that the five residents of the Balearic Islands detained by Israel as part of the Global Sumud humanitarian aid flotilla in Gaza "can return home." "Everyone was aware of the risk of their situation," he explained, emphasizing that the Executive does not have diplomatic powers. He also called for the opening of humanitarian corridors in Gaza.

The flotilla includesthe Mallorcan Lucía Muñoz (Podemos councilor at Palma City Council), Alejandra Martínez and Reyes Rigo, as well as Menorcans Lluís de Moner and Santi Oliver. Costa admitted that the Catalan government has no information about their situation and noted that this is the responsibility of the Spanish government. The vice president made these statements the day after protests took place outside various town halls in the Balearic Islands to show support for the Flotilla. The protests took place both in the islands and throughout Spain and around the world.
