PalmThe Second Vice President and Minister of the Presidency, Antònia Estarellas, assured this Friday that there will be no restructuring of the department as a result of the repeal of the Democratic Memory Law. "The Government has a well-defined roadmap for memory policies, with investment, and this will continue," she affirmed. She emphasized that the memory service will retain its current staff and will continue carrying out actions such as the commemorative stones and the creation of memorial spaces. "We will commission another 100 that the municipalities have requested," she said. What is no longer permitted by the law's repeal, she stated, will continue to be done in accordance with the State Law on Democratic Memory, which remains in force. Thus, Estarellas demonstrated the Executive's commitment to continue along the same lines despite the law's repeal in the Parliament, a consequence of the 2025 budget agreement with Vox. "On a political level, the most affected party, so to speak, is covered by state law, which is the punitive or prosecuting aspect for certain crimes," he emphasized. Furthermore, he insisted that the Executive "continues" working on the recovery of remains from the mass graves, although memorial organizations have denounced shortcomings in the application of the regulations.

The second vice president insisted on asserting that the national law on historical memory fills the void that the regional law will leave. But if the People's Party (PP) were to govern at the national level, would it support maintaining the regional law, or would it advocate for its elimination? The national president of her party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has expressed his desire to repeal it. Despite this, Estarellas refused to speculate. "The law has been repealed as it stands, and the situation is that a national law is in place," she concluded.
