The government will expand the safe rental program due to its poor results
Despite it was foreseen that it would capture between 2,000 and 3,000 apartments, it has only incorporated 87
PalmThe Government will expand the safe rental program this Friday after its scarce results. As ARA Balears advanced, it has been nine months since the Executive internally admitted the failure of this measure, which was supposed to achieve between 2,000 and 3,000 homes in a first phase, and so far it has only mobilized 87. That is why it has been forced to modify its operation.
The Executive launched this program in October 2024, but it has not yielded the expected results. On the one hand, there has been a lack of owners willing to make their apartments available for the program, while others have offered homes that had to be rejected because they did not meet the necessary conditions: for example, they required renovation.
When asked about this issue during the control session with the Government this Tuesday, Prohens highlighted that the program's conditions will be expanded. According to Prohens, in the Islands there are currently "thousands" of small property owners who prefer "to keep their homes closed because they are afraid" of issues such as squatting.
The deputy from Més per Menorca, Josep Castells, questioned the president's account. "They do not intend to do anything to prevent tourists from buying homes that should be for residents," criticized Castells, adding that he regrets that the Government "is not willing to take bold measures".
In parallel, the latest data from the Idealista portal, collected by Europa Press, indicate that the offer of seasonal rentals has soared by 23% in Palma in the first quarter of the year compared to last year, while permanent rentals have risen by 3%.
The complaint against the mayor of Ibiza will be processed "like any other"
The Minister of Housing, José Luis Mateo, has assured that the complaint filed by the PSOE with the Balearic Housing Institute (Ibavi) against the mayor of Ibiza, Rafael Triguero, "will be processed like any other". The socialist party denounced Triguero for allegedly trying to irregularly change the use of a commercial premises to Limited Price Housing, which the mayor has denied. Socialist deputy Pilar Costa has warned Mateo and Prohens that they are "disqualified" from discussing housing as long as Triguero has been denounced for "alleged corruption".
