The opposition pressures the Government over the amnesty for chalets on rustic land in Ibiza

PalmaThe PSIB pressured the Government this Tuesday following the legalization of several luxury villas on rustic land in Sant Josep de sa Talaia (Ibiza) thanks to the urban planning amnesty it promoted two years ago. After ARA Balears uncovered the case, the socialist deputy Àlex Pitaluga accused the Executive of promoting a model of "luxury" and "consumption of territory and water," since in the midst of a water crisis these homes have swimming pools on protected land.

"They defended this urban planning amnesty by saying it would affect middle-class families in the islands who had bought their habitual residence, out of order, and could not carry out basic repair work," recalled Pitaluga. "In Sant Josep, they are building four luxury homes, three swimming pools with tennis and badminton courts, on a plot valued at 30 million euros," he continued: "They are using the amnesty to legalize large homes on rustic land."

The first vice president and minister of Economy, Antoni Costa, has accused Pitaluga of putting on "a pathetic spectacle." Furthermore, he put on the table the tensions between administrations after the Minister of Housing, Isabel Rodríguez, questioned the priority of access for Ibizans to the 532 affordable rental apartments planned for the Ca n'Escandell development, on the island. "They will have to comply with the current housing law and, therefore, they will not be for anyone other than for those Ibizans who have more than five years of residence in Ibiza," he defended.
