Progreso en Verde has demanded the withdrawal of the driver's license and has announced that it will take the case to the Prosecutor's Office, considering that the facts could constitute several crimes.
The incident took place on Friday in the carriage area of the center of Palma. The protagonist of the video, a German tourist identified on social networks as Xenia Denise, explained that she intervened after seeing one of the horses apparently exhausted. The woman asked the driver if she could give the animal water.
The discussion escalated. In the images, which the woman herself shared on social networks, you can see the driver throwing water at her while shouting at her. According to the tourist's account, the man also insulted her and called her a "Nazi" on several occasions.
A video that has gone viral
The images have spread rapidly on social media and have provoked numerous reactions. The case has also crossed the borders of Mallorca and has already appeared in the media of other countries, especially Germany and Switzerland.
The wide dissemination of the video has once again brought to the table the debate about the horse-drawn carriages of Palma and the conditions in which the animals work, especially during episodes of heat.
Progreso en Verde wants to take the case to the Prosecutor's Office
The president of Progreso en Verde, Guillermo Amengual, has demanded that the license of the driver involved be revoked. The entity considers what happened unacceptable and maintains that it would not be the first time that citizens have been shouted at after questioning the condition of the horses pulling the carriages.
The organization has also announced its intention to take the case to the Prosecutor's Office to determine if the events could have criminal consequences. Among the possible infractions that the entity raises are assault, harassment, and a possible hate crime.
Palma has already opened an investigation
The Palma City Council has opened an informational file through the Mobility area to clarify what happened and determine if measures should be taken against the driver.
Cort has warned that they will not tolerate behavior that may be incompatible with the obligations and conditions that holders and drivers of the carriage service must comply with. Once the investigation is concluded, the City Council will decide what measures to adopt.
