A tourist is run over and dies in Capdepera and the driver flees after the accident

PalmaThe Civil Guard is investigating the death of a tourist who was run over this Sunday morning on the road to Cala Mesquida, in Capdepera. The driver involved left the scene and, hours later, officers located the vehicle presumably involved with no trace of the occupant. Hours later, Civil Guard officers, who took charge of the search, located and arrested the alleged perpetrator.

The accident occurred around half past seven in the morning. The victim had gone for a run around the area where he was staying with his wife, in a hotel in Cala Mesquida, when, for reasons that are still being investigated, he was hit by a car.

During the initial research tasks, the Local Police of Capdepera found an abandoned black Volkswagen Polo in a wooded area near the road. The vehicle showed damage consistent with a hit-and-run, which led to the expansion of the search operation in the surroundings and for the remains of the victim's body.

Shortly after, the deployed units located the lifeless body of the man among the vegetation, about one hundred meters from the point where the car had appeared. Mallorca Firefighters intervened to facilitate its recovery, while the SAMU-061 paramedics could only certify his death.

The first investigations suggest that the vehicle was traveling at high speed at the time of the impact. According to initial information, the suspect would work in a hotel establishment in the area, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
