PalmaThe Association of Public Administration Workers, ATAP, has reported that the Palma City Council is keeping Local Police officers in training in a situation of “lack of protection” and “maximum danger”. According to the union, the problem particularly affects police officers assigned to certain units and, above all, to the Playa de Palma area, one of the areas it considers most conflictive in the municipality.

ATAP demands that trainees have adequate protection and that they do not act without the permanent accompaniment of fully operational and equipped officers. Specifically, the entity demands that they always go with a minimum of two active officers who can guarantee their safety during service.

The union considers it “completely contradictory” that Cort publicly defended the police action deployed a few days ago in Playa de Palma against irregular street vending and that, at the same time, as it denounces, it negligently exposes officers who are still in training.

For ATAP, this situation puts both trainees and the functioning of the service at risk, especially in areas where interventions can lead to tense situations. Therefore, it demands that the Council review destination criteria and strengthen the safety conditions of these officers.
