Vox says Prohens contradicts herself when criticizing national priority: "It is already being applied in her Government"

The president of the Government distanced herself from the measure this Sunday

PalmThe spokesperson for the parliamentary group of Vox, Manuela Cañadas, has accused President Marga Prohens of "falling into contradiction when criticizing the national priority clause. The Popular Party member distanced herself yesterday from this idea, included in the agreements between the PP and Vox in Extremadura and Aragon, and called it "populism." In response to these statements, Cañadas has asked if, for the same reason, Prohens' government "is populist": "It is already applying a national priority thanks to the demands of Vox".

Cañadas made these remarks in reference to the outcome of the PP and Vox pacts to pass the latest budgets, in which they agreed to require three years of residence to access the Guaranteed Social Income (Resoga), and five to opt for protected housing. "Then she comes to the plenary sessions telling us that, for her, the citizens of the Balearic Islands come first," she continued: "Who is a populist?"

But, what is, for Vox, the national priority? Cañadas defined it as an act of "retributive justice" based on the fact that "those who sustain the system have priority of access when they need it." She also said that she disagrees with the definition given by the PP, which is more linked to the idea of "roots" in the territory: "We do not agree, because having roots is a prior step to obtaining nationality."

When asked about this issue, the deputy spokesperson for the PP parliamentary group, Marga Duran, defended that "aid should reach the people from here" with conditions of "years of legal residence." "Perfectly viable limits have been set that are compatible with the Spanish Constitution," she stated (article 14 of the Constitution enshrines the right to equality before the law and prohibits discrimination based on birth, race, sex, religion, and opinion). "Other issues make no sense, they are more derived from populism than from a viable reality," she explained.

Cañadas says the Constitution is "Spanish"

On the other hand, Cañadas has defended that the Constitution "is Spanish", and when it prohibits discrimination against citizens based on their place of birth, it refers to "if you are from Galicia or Catalonia". He has also lamented that nationality is being granted "as if they were churros".
