13 years going out to meet the world that is coming

Since I cannot yet talk about the awardees (already chosen) of the new edition of the awards that ARABalears grants annually when I write this column, I will write about what brings us to this already traditional celebration. ARA Balears commemorates its 13 years of existence, and with them, 13 years of rigorous and committed journalism. Two adjectives that are good to write from a marketing perspective, but very difficult to make a reality.

And it is not because the professionals who have been carrying out this project for more than a decade do not know how to achieve quality journalism, but because in these times, carrying it out often involves a titanic effort. Institutions and companies have endowed themselves with a communicative power that, at times, facilitates their task, but, at others, aims to prevent it.

As if that were not enough, conventional media, often recognized as essential from a theoretical point of view, have to compete with a communicative avalanche and, why not say it, with entertainment that appears to be information, which fills social networks and, above all, people's minds.

With this panorama, managing to 'sneak in' into this magnum mare is not easy. But ARA Balears does it and, what is more important, more and more. A fact that encourages and commits us. Thousands of people consult and inform themselves with us daily, and many of you ask us for more journalism, more investigation, and for us to put more elements of reflection on the table. We do it thanks to an extraordinary team, capable of getting to the bottom of the news and turning it into an element of reflection. In order to, as our manifesto says, 'go out to meet the world that is coming'. That was the idea.
