26-J - Coalition For Mallorca

There are moments that mark the future of a people. Moments when those of us who have responsibilities in political movements must decide whether to let ourselves be conditioned by circumstances or to act thinking about the general interest and the generations to come.

This Sunday a demonstration has been called under the slogan 'Mallorca, at the limit'. It is not a call from Coalició per Mallorca nor is the slogan exactly what we would have chosen. It is also true that in recent days there have been actions and messages from some of its promoters that we do not share and that we condemn without any nuance. We also do not think that some of the measures proposed by the organizers are the right ones; in fact, some are even counterproductive. 

But decisions cannot be made thinking only about the circumstances of the moment. They must be made with a long-term perspective.

Today Mallorca is at a decisive moment.

We all know that the economic model that has brought us this far has generated prosperity, but it has also reached its limits and is currently impoverishing the people of Mallorca. Every year it is more difficult to access housing, infrastructure is saturated, resources are finite, and many Mallorcans feel like they are taking steps backward while the island endures ever-increasing pressure.

This reality will not disappear because a few have acted irresponsibly. Nor will it disappear if those of us who want to change things decide to stay home.

That is why Coalició per Mallorca will be there.

It will be there because the debate about the future of Mallorca is too important to leave in the hands of others. It will be there to defend a change in the economic model that puts the interests of the people of Mallorca at the center of all decisions. It will be there with its ideas, with its own voice, with its proposals, and with the conviction that loving Mallorca also means having the courage to make decisions when it is easier not to.

It will be there because Mallorca cannot accommodate any more people. We cannot grow with more population; we must stop the current arrival of 20,000 people each year, and to do this, we must reduce all types of tourist accommodation places, which are the basis that sets the volume of our model. Initially, 40,000, 10% of all existing legal ones, starting from the next legislature, a measure that we will explain in the coming days from Coalició Per Mallorca.

History does not remember those who waited for the perfect moment. It remembers those who knew how to rise to the occasion when they were needed.

This Sunday we are not going to follow anyone.

We are going to defend Mallorca.
