Palma's Local Police, on the attack of the budget

However, after reading the documentation from their representatives, one point seems particularly worrying. The specific supplement of €31,000 gross, currently paid to those with extremely high levels of danger, risk, and specialization, is now being considered for universal application. This means that nearly 800 members of the force, some of whom perform respectable work but without any specialization or risk, also aspire to this compensation.

The police union representatives didn't play this card lightly. They are fully aware that for the People's Party (PP), security is a key electoral asset. A labor dispute with the police would be extremely undesirable for Jaime Martínez, and that's why this demand, which is not only exorbitant but also completely unfounded, has been put forward. Specific allowances are paid proportionally according to the complexity, specialization, danger, and other conditions of a job. But wanting public money to be handed out indiscriminately is an insult to the police officers who risk their lives in certain operations. The Palma Local Police have a history that warrants serious scrutiny. Despite all the shortcomings, the Cursach case revealed truly appalling practices: leaked exams, officers working as private security in nightclubs, internal conflicts, and widespread corruption. Now, to raid the public coffers in this way is disgraceful. The unions involved and Martínez must review this absurdity.
