Prohens' and OCB's friendly song
More than one reader has sent us comments about the image where the President of the Government and the OCB representative are seen talking amicably at the popular singing event of La Balanguera. The head of the Executive's communication council did not waste time posting on social media the image where Prohens even puts her hand on Antoni Llabrés's shoulder, when it should be remembered that the president has not stopped eroding the demands for Catalan and has even forced the OCB to go to court.
It is not easy to avoid these situations, and even less so on a significant day, when the OCB has managed to create an emotional event that has united thousands of Majorcans around a hymn that we have found these days fewer and fewer people know. But today we cannot and must not be pessimistic. The success, once again, of the OCB's board has been to take advantage of a symbolic commemoration to have thousands of people, mobile in hand, sing in schools and squares.
An exercise to reinforce identity and to remember that our own language is a space for meeting and welcoming, and not an imposition or a whim, as the far-right deputies are keen to remind us. Unfortunately, not only do they repeat this obsessively, but they achieve significant victories by denigrating the language, reducing its importance.
And Prohens does this much more often than she would like. But she does it. The president has not made a monstrous TIL like Bauzá, but in small doses she hands over the dignity of Catalan to Vox. She, because she is the president, should find a way to agree with the left on a red line. And she doesn't, because the ultras, in exchange for touching Catalan, don't even look at the PP's procedural amendments, which slip through without debate.
