The intermittent Correllengua of the PSIB

It is a joy to see deputies, councilors and members of the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands with the Correllengua t-shirt, filling social networks with their enthusiasm to protect the Catalan language.

The images of the top leaders of any party at an event that aims to raise awareness about the importance of using Catalan, defending it and claiming it, both in the public and private spheres, is always a cause for joy. Because public representatives are the citizens' role models and because they are the ones who represent them. And when necessary, they are the ones who make decisions.

It is a shame that the red t-shirt that has traveled through 500 locations in the Catalan Countries was not worn by the PSIB representatives when they governed the community, and they were about to eliminate the Catalan language requirement in public healthcare. At that moment, they fell into the same absurd and deceitful trap defended by people and positions interested in going against Catalan, according to which the lack of doctors and healthcare professionals is due to the Catalan language requirement.

It has been proven that this is not the reason, no matter how much it is now the PP and Vox who have perpetrated the same misdeed. But what is not acceptable is to have parties that, depending on convenience, support Catalan or go against it. Then some politicians complain about citizen disaffection, but with these self-serving changes of position, they are not helping.

And I suppose that the PSIB has also now learned that the doctors' union is not an ally when it comes to promoting Catalan among newly arrived professionals. It is more concerned with preventing nurses from deservedly leading health centers.
