Esquerra Unida proposes a joint candidacy in the Balearic Islands with Ara Més, Podem and Sumar
Óscar Rodríguez considers that it must be started "to talk here and explore if we are capable of reaching an agreement" with the other political forces
PalmaEsquerra Unida de les Balears (EUIB) has proposed to Ara Més, Podem, and Sumar to open a negotiation process to make a joint candidacy possible for the upcoming general elections on November 29th. The goal of the formation is to achieve a single ballot for the "transformative left" in the Balearic Islands that serves as "a tool to join forces, build a progressive majority, and have more capacity to transform the policies that affect the Archipelago."
The spokesperson for EUIB, Óscar Rodríguez, has explained that they must begin "to talk here and explore if we are capable of reaching an agreement" with the other political forces. At the same time, he defended "a model that puts resources at the service of the social majority."
In this sense, he has demanded the redistribution of wealth so that it reaches the working class, to strengthen public services, and to guarantee rights such as housing. In his opinion, this requires a left that "is not docile in the defense of the Islands' interests, that knows how to negotiate, propose, and, when necessary, stand its ground before Madrid."
Esquerra Unida has highlighted the "important advances" achieved this legislative term, such as free public transport during 2026. However, it also recalled pending demands, such as the fight against the expansions of the airports of Palma and Ibiza, and the control tower for the one in Menorca. "These are examples of the importance of having representation in Madrid and of being capable of negotiating and defending the interests of the Islands," emphasized Rodríguez.
