MÉS denounces that the PP supports amendments by Vox that weaken the use of Catalan in education

PalmaThe parliamentary group of MÉS per Mallorca denounced this Tuesday that the Popular Party has supported amendments by Vox that, according to the eco-sovereigntist party, have a broader impact than the Government of Marga Prohens had acknowledged in relation to the use of Catalan in educational centers.
The controversy occurred during the committee hearing of the Finance Committee on the decree-law of strategic projects, where amendments by Vox were incorporated in their entirety, without any amendments from the PP, as explained by the spokesperson for MÉS in Parliament, Lluís Apesteguia.
Apesteguia particularly criticized that the measures regarding the exemption of Catalan for occupying hard-to-fill positions do not establish any deadline or subsequent obligation to prove knowledge of the language. According to the deputy, it is also not stipulated that the lack of accreditation will prevent obtaining a permanent position, as the Government had defended. Furthermore, he denounced that the norm does not affect specific positions but “an entire specialty”, which, according to MÉS, could have a structural impact on the use of Catalan within the educational system.
“The PP's response to the social outcry that the Correllengua Agermanat has caused is one of extreme cynicism”, stated Apesteguia, who believes that these decisions represent a new “attaçk on the language and identity” of the country. The deputy also described the incorporation of amendments as a “fraud of law”, which, he said, are unrelated to the content of the decree and imply a “loss of rights for citizens and for children and young people”.
In the same session, MÉS criticized the approval of two more measures: the recovery of pigeon shooting as a sport and the provision of Taser guns to the police. In the first case, the party described it as an act of animal cruelty, while in the second, it expressed its rejection of the measure.
