New agreement between the Government and unions: up to 12,500 euros for thousands of public employees
The measure foresees benefiting up to 5,000 workers of the instrumental public sector
PalmaApproximately 5,000 public employees in the Balearic Islands will receive a specific salary supplement for professional career progression that can reach 12,500 euros per year. The Minister of Labor, Catalina Cabrer, has announced an agreement with the main unions to "fulfill the great pact of the legislature" of the Government and extend the benefits of professional career progression to the instrumental public sector of the Community.
The number of beneficiaries is a minimum of 3,000 people, but the minister has assured that, when the "framing" process is completed, that is, the evaluation of different professional profiles, she expects 5,000 to benefit. This procedure will determine the level that corresponds to each worker based on their trajectory and seniority.
In a press conference accompanied by representatives from USO, STEI, CSIF, CCOO, and UGT, Cabrer explained that the professional career bonus is structured in four tiers: the first is the lowest and the fourth, the highest. This will mean that some workers may receive an annual payment of at least 1,420 euros, while those with extensive experience in the public sector may receive up to 12,500 euros annually.
An agreement that arrives "ten years late"
"Civil servants must be able to progress without needing to change jobs," the minister considered. The spokesperson for CESIF, José María Briz, considered that the measure "will stop the drain of public workers." On behalf of CCOO and USO, David Sunyer and Javier Palmer defended that these workers "are not second-class" in relation to the rest of the public sector, while, on behalf of UGT, Esther Justos described the agreement as "historic." Finally, the spokesperson for STEI, Mateu Moyà, celebrated the achievement of an agreement "that comes ten years late."
