PalmThe government has accused the Spanish government of "threatening" it with not sending the ordinary credit to finance the care of unaccompanied migrant minors in the Balearic Islands and is demanding its transfer because it was a point unanimously approved by the preparatory Sectoral Commission. The Balearic government stated that the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, informed them that the suspension of the Sectoral Conference scheduled for this Thursday, following the protest by the PP's autonomous communities, would prevent this financial transfer, according to Europa Press.

The Minister of Families, Social Welfare and Care for Dependency, Sandra Fernández, has said that "if there was will", a Sectoral Conference could have been held on this point and move forward with the financing, since "on this point there was agreement among all the autonomous communities." She has also claimed that this credit should reach the the two million euros planned are "totally insufficient." "The central government must stop making excuses and transfer that money to the Balearic Islands. However, the Government reiterates that it is an insufficient amount to cover the expenses derived from the care of these children, care that is the priority because these minors cannot be turned into a political instrument," she argued.

On the other hand, Fernández has asked the Spanish government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, to explain to the Ministry the "oversaturation" that child care services are currently experiencing, which are "over 1,000% of their capacity."

For these reasons, the minister asked Rodríguez "not to take a back seat" and to "report on the situation in the Archipelago," with a "consolidated route of irregular migration," which she criticized the Ministry of the Interior for "ignoring or refusing to acknowledge."

The Government has reminded everyone that the Balearic Islands are currently hosting more than 200 minors above its capacity, which "puts the child protection system at risk of collapse." Thus, she warned that the Executive "has no guarantees to provide quality care to minors arriving from other territories of the State."

The Minister reiterated the reasons that led the Government to not attend the Sectoral Conference, as did the majority of the regional ministers, which led to the suspension of the meeting due to lack of a quorum.

"The agenda for this meeting was cancelled with the vote against the majority of the autonomous regions to the Sectoral Commission, but what the Government will not tolerate is blackmail from the Ministry, which threatens not to transfer funding for child care services and, instead, pushes ahead with the distribution of minors in a Catalonia-style manner," she stated.
