The mayor of Selva denies having intervened in the hiring of his son at the City Hall

The City Council has accessed a scholarship from a SOIB program to incorporate a technician into the economic area

PalmThe Selva Town Council has announced on Facebook the hiring of a qualified young man through the Balearic Islands Employment Service (SOIB) program. The announcement includes a photograph of the mayor, Joan Rotger, with his son Pere, who won the position as a technician in the Town Council's economic department. He will hold this position for one year and will earn around €30,000. Although the announcement has stirred controversy and comments on social media, Rotger told ARA Baleares that there was "no favoritism" in the hiring process and that the SOIB independently selected his son's profile: "The mayor does not intervene in the procedure." As he explained, this is a recruitment drive through which "ten young people" have been hired by the Town Council in recent years. "I deny any favoritism," he insists, and laments the criticism: "It's not his fault he's my son." Specifically, the program the City Council has joined is the Employment Opportunities for Qualified Young People in Local Entities in 2025 program, which is funded by the European Union and is aimed at hiring people with university degrees or advanced vocational training qualifications. The City Council has received a grant of €35,609 to hire the mayor's son, who points out that the Regional Ministry of Business, Employment and Energy is the entity promoting this program.
