PalmaThe speech that the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, gave this Tuesday in the last general policy debate of the legislature had one of its high points when Prohens announced that she would allocate funds from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) to build public housing, a measure that she herself repealed at the beginning of the legislature. This has been one of the points criticized by the left, which applauded and made Prohens uncomfortable at the moment she announced it from the plenary hall rostrum.

The reactions were not long in coming. In the case of the PSIB, it was the next candidate for the regional elections, Rosario Sánchez, who assessed the president's intervention. "It has been a sad debate, a speech of a bad student," pointed out Sánchez, in addition to remarking that "we are worse off than three and a half years ago" regarding housing. "It turns out that the star measure of the president of the Balearic Islands is to bring back a measure that she herself repealed: dedicating the ITS to the construction of public housing. If they had done it this legislature, there would have been 120 million euros. But the president said it was not necessary. It is good that she learns from it, but it is not good that she makes us waste our time," criticized Sánchez.

Along the same lines, the spokesperson for MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, expressed himself. "That the most audacious proposal is rectifying herself, I find it ridiculous," he said, in addition to congratulating the press for "having survived this speech." "The president does not have satisfactory results or any country project to present. She has failed and is exhausted after one legislature," added the eco-sovereigntist spokesperson, who lamented that Prohens "wanted to sell us a fairy tale."

"She was very offended when she announced a rectification as a major housing measure and the opposition applauded," said the spokesperson for Més per Menorca, Josep Castells, on his part. "It was her Government that repealed the ITS for housing. The opposition has presented it and has always voted against it. Now, it is her great measure," he added.

On the other hand, the PP spokesperson, Sebastià Sagreras, did not admit the criticisms regarding Prohens' rectification. "Last term, the ITS was used for things that had nothing to do with tourism. There were items to fund radio station concerts and the purchase of electric scooters. It was a PP proposal to allocate it to the environment and to mitigate the externalities of tourism. Obviously, in a situation like the current one, we said that we would study an extraordinary proposal that the unions made in the Pact for sustainability, and the president has said that we would carry it forward," he explained.
