The People's Party (PP) is calling for the resignation of the Spanish government representative over his handling of migration: "Every time he opens his mouth, the mafia business flourishes."
José Vicente Marí accuses Alfonso Rodríguez of refusing to appear before Parliament
PalmThe People's Party (PP) called on Thursday for the resignation of the Spanish government's representative in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, arguing that he "incentivizes" migration. José Vicente Marí Bosó, deputy spokesperson for the PP group in the Congress of Deputies, expressed this after it was confirmed that more than 500 migrants had arrived in the Balearic Islands this week. "Every time he opens his mouth, the mafia's business increases," he said.
The deputy considers that Rodriguez's statements, for having said in Laser that the arrival of small boats is one of the "most intense" that has occurred in a short period of time, that migrants are expected to continue arriving, and having denied the existence of a migratory route between Algeria and the Balearic Islands, in addition to insisting that it is a route through the Mediterranean. "He has done nothing during these years and now he dedicates himself to making statements, and every time he opens his mouth, the mafia business flourishes even more," criticized Marí Bosó: "What he has done these days is encourage the trafficking of small boats on our coasts and we demand the immediate resignation of a man who is dedicated to setting everything on fire."
The MP made these statements in front of Maritime Station Number 3 of the port of Palma, which opened last Tuesday to accommodate migrants waiting for the boat to travel to the Peninsula. Until now, they were sleeping on the streets despite the heat. According to Marí Bosó, Rodríguez's "only stellar performance" on migration issues has been "filling the ports of the Balearic Islands with barracks." He also criticized Rodríguez for his refusal to appear before Parliament and Congress, or to meet with the Catalan government and the four island councils of the Balearic Islands.
For the MP, "a decisive and ruthless fight against the mafias that traffic people in the Mediterranean" is necessary, along with greater resources for state security forces, a foreign policy "that does not aggravate Algeria," and the installation of a surveillance system in most of Europe to deploy Frontex agents to the islands.
