UGT denounces Son Reus again: decomposed corpses, maggots and dirty water
The union presents this lawsuit after the complaint about irregularities in the transport of animals

PalmaUGT Public Services has filed a new complaint with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment in which it asserts, based on photographic evidence, that the Son Reus municipal animal shelter stores "decomposing carcasses in a broken refrigerator" and provides the animals with water that, according to the union, is contaminated with legionella.

The trade union organization thus maintains its legal offensive against the alleged negligence that, as it denounces, occurs at the Son Reus animal welfare center. The new complaint arrives just 15 days after UGT made it public that the transport of live and dead animals was being carried out together.

The union insists that, in accordance with the protocols, biological remains cannot be transported with live animals. In this regard, it criticizes that the workers, "pressured by the City Council" so that the services would be carried out quickly, end up "loading dead and live animals" in the same van, a practice that UGT assures is habitual.
Regarding the storage of the corpses, UGT states that at the kennel, managed by the concessionaire Athinsa, the cold chain established by the SANDACH regulations is not respected. According to the complaint, the refrigerator "has been broken for more than a year" and does not reach or maintain the temperature required by the regulations. The union maintains that this situation causes "the accelerated decomposition of the corpses and the proliferation of maggots".
UGT also denounces the hygienic situation of the facilities and asserts that "animals are being given water contaminated with legionella to drink". Given this situation, the union demands that responsibilities be clarified at the Palma City Council, as the political entity responsible for the public service.
Furthermore, UGT asserts that the City Council allows the management of the Son Reus animal welfare center to force the staff to perform functions that do not correspond to their job category.
