PalmThe platform Airbnb has removed more than 60,000 illegal tourist rental spaces in the Illes Balears during this legislature, according to the island councils and the Government in the framework of the policy to combat irregular supply. Prohens has stressed that this is the first time this figure has been reached and has attributed the result to the joint work of the island institutions in detecting and removing irregular tourist accommodation advertisements on digital platforms. As she pointed out, this action is part of the tourism growth containment strategy promoted by the Government.

The president has argued that the Balearic Islands are consolidating themselves as a “refuge destination” and has insisted on the need to maintain prudence in the tourism model. In this regard, she has appealed for “responsibility” in the debate on the sector and has asked to avoid discourses that, as she said, can distort the tourism reality of the archipelago.

During her speech, Prohens also highlighted measures such as the prohibition of new tourist apartments and the use of the Sustainable Tourism Tax for the protection of the territory, and assured that the Government will continue with a strategy aimed at growing in value and not in volume of visitors.

The statement was made within the framework of the ninth edition of the Menorca Tourism Fair, where the president advocated for the island's own model based on local produce, craftsmanship, and the agricultural sector.
