PalmaAn 80-year-old man died this Tuesday evening after suffering a heart attack while driving through the floating roundabout in Son Ferriol, in Palma. The medical emergency caused him to lose control of the vehicle and end up causing a multi-vehicle accident in which two other people were slightly injured.
The events took place around 7 p.m., when the driver was entering the roundabout from the Ma-30. According to the Civil Guard, the man suffered a heart attack while at the wheel and lost control of the car. The vehicle first hit a triangular island and, subsequently, entered the opposite direction of traffic, where it crashed into two more vehicles. Agents from the Civil Guard's Traffic Group have determined that the driver had already died before the impact. Therefore, the cause of death was the heart attack and not the consequences of the collision.
The driver's 79-year-old wife, who was traveling with him, was unharmed, although she was taken to Son Espases University Hospital. In one of the other two vehicles involved, a man and a woman were traveling, who suffered minor injuries and were also taken to Son Espases. In the third car, a man was traveling who was unharmed. The Civil Guard has also determined that none of the drivers involved were driving under the influence of alcohol or had violated traffic regulations.
