PalmaA spectacular waterspout surprised this Monday off Cala Mesquida, in Mallorca, during a day marked by storms and intense rainfall in several parts of the Balearic Islands. The phenomenon was captured off the Mallorcan coast while instability affected a large part of the Archipelago.

In Menorca, the rains discharged with force and left 45 liters per square meter in the center of Ciutadella. In Cala Santandria, the storm caused significant water accumulations in a short time. In a video shared by IBmeteo on social media, one can see how several centimeters of water cover the stairs of a beachfront establishment, while the water falls with force from the roofs and the wind displaces it.

Aemet has kept the orange alert activated in Menorca due to heavy rain and storms. During a good part of the day, there has also been a yellow alert in Ibiza and Formentera, as well as in the Serra de Tramuntana, in Mallorca.
