Avícola Son Perot wants to build a farm of 80,000 chickens near Manacor

The project foresees two sheds of 40,000 chickens each, a warehouse and a covered manure pit, with an estimated annual production of 3,200 tons of manure and a consumption of 9.6 million liters of water

ManacorThe company Avícola Son Perot SA intends to carry out the construction of a new poultry farm for egg production on a plot located in the municipal district of Manacor, near the residential area of Son Talent, following the Ma-3322 road.

This Thursday, the environmental impact study has been published, which specifies that the poultry farm will consist of two laying hen sheds, with a capacity of 40,000 hens per shed. Therefore, the total planned capacity for the new farm will be 80,000 hens.

The closest urban land for residential use to the farm is the Son Talent residential area, located on the outskirts of Manacor and at a distance of 4,435 meters from the planned livestock facilities. The distance to the urban center of Manacor is 5,560 meters, while to the urban center of Petra it is 5,820 meters and to that of Ariany, 6,610 meters.

However, the project complies with a legal distance from the animal shed or complementary facilities (manure pit) that must never be less than 4,000 linear meters from residential urban land.

The farm would also respect a distance of more than 500 meters with regard to any other existing poultry farm or any other establishment or facility that may represent a hygienic-sanitary risk, such as meat industries, slaughterhouses, carcass burial areas, manure treatment facilities, and the like.

Regarding access and communication infrastructures, the closest means of communication to the facilities is the Ma-3322 road, located approximately one kilometer from the planned site for the constructions.

Characteristics

The two planned laying hen poultry houses will be similar. They will have external dimensions of 135.30 meters in length and 18.10 meters in width, with a built area of 2,488.93 square meters each.

Each house will also have cooling zones on both sides and a small building located above the pit for the manure removal belt. In this way, the total built area of each laying house will be 2,538.93 square meters.

New warehouse

For the packaging of eggs before transfer to the external classification center, a warehouse will also be built, prepared to receive, by means of conveyor belts, the production from the two laying houses.

This building will have external dimensions of 28.04 meters in length and 12.24 meters in width, with a built area of 343.21 square meters. Inside, the building will be divided into a main area for egg packaging, a storage area, and a changing room and sanitary facilities area.

Manure and water

The project also includes the construction of a covered manure pit with dimensions of 40.80 meters in length by 15.80 meters in width, representing a built area of 644.64 square meters. This space is designed to store the manure generated by the farm for a period of four months.

The estimated manure production is 0.04 tons per place per year, resulting in a total annual production of 3,200 tons of manure. Given that the project foresees a storage capacity for a period of four months, the amount of manure to be stored will be 1,067 tons.

On the other hand, the estimated water consumption for the poultry farm is calculated based on a capacity of 80,000 laying hens, with an allocation of 0.12 cubic meters per head per year. According to this data, the total estimated annual consumption will be 9,600 cubic meters of water, equivalent to 9.6 million liters annually.

Finally, the estimated annual mortality rate according to the project is 3%, which means that around 2,400 carcasses will be produced per year.
