Boycott of the mayor of Palma: the Local Police turn their backs on him at a public event
The unions are planning a new protest on the 26th: "We want to know the real reason for this delay, we want them to show their faces."
PalmA group of union members from the Palma Local Police staged a protest at an event attended by Palma Mayor Jaime Martínez on Friday, demanding the implementation of the force's reorganization plan. The protest took place at the PalmaActiva headquarters, where an event had been organized to present a training program for Palma City Council employees.
According to the account of events given to Europa Press by CSIF, members of the Local Police were invited to the event, and this group of union representatives from CSIF, UGT, CCOO, and SPPME arrived with the initial intention of speaking with Martínez at the main entrance of the building. However, the mayor reportedly entered the building through another entrance, and when he began to speak during the event, a group of union members present in the room stood up and turned their backs on him in protest. Agustín Sánchez, the CSIF union representative for the Local Police, indicated that this was a continuation of the demonstration they held last Thursday because Martínez "has not kept his word" to implement the Urban Development Plan by the beginning of 2026.
Sánchez emphasized that they have no meetings scheduled with the local council in the coming days regarding this matter, and warned that if they learn Martínez will be participating in any event, they will "surprise" him to "call him out on the lack of response." "What we want to know is the real reason for this delay, for him to face the music, to explain why it's not being implemented, and to find solutions," he argued, adding that they are planning another protest for the 26th, but still need to finalize the details.
