PalmaThe housing inspection service of the Government's Department of Housing, Territory and Mobility has detected a premises in Sant Antoni de Portmany where 70 bunk beds were installed and where at least twenty people were staying overnight, who were paying 300€ monthly to stay there. The premises is one of the properties inspected in a joint operation by the Government, the Local Police and the Civil Guard to check the habitability and occupancy conditions of dwellings and premises in the municipality.

As reported this Tuesday by the Sant Antoni City Council, the operations have allowed for the inspection of about sixty dwellings and premises. On Sant Antoni street, the inspectors also visited four dwellings in which there were approximately 30 bunk beds in each, with high occupancy. In total, between 120 and 130 bunk beds were counted in this building. The actions also included premises located in other areas of the municipality. In one of these properties, the agents confirmed that it was being used as a space for sleeping, with an estimated occupancy of between five and six people.

During the inspections, the agents interviewed the residents and gathered information about the conditions of the accommodations and the rent payments. All the collected documentation has been transferred to the competent services so that they can evaluate the circumstances and determine the appropriate actions, including the possible opening of sanctioning proceedings regarding housing and habitability.

Inspections against illegal tourist rentals and substandard housing

Part of the inspections have been initiated following the actions of the Intrusism and Coexistence agents (AIC) of Sant Antoni, who work to detect possible illegal tourist rentals and other situations that require administrative intervention.

The operations are also part of the collaboration with the Island Council of Ibiza within the framework of the Plan against intrusism. The City Council has reminded the public of the importance of reporting possible cases of illegal tourist rental and substandard housing to facilitate verification and inspection tasks. Furthermore, the Government, through the General Directorate of Housing and Architecture, keeps an open complaints channel on the website of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, through which possible irregularities regarding housing can be reported.
