Controversy in Biniaraix over the celebration of a private party that occupied the square during the Patron Saint festival
Numerous neighbours expressed their rejection of the action and the responsible establishment admitted that it was "a serious mistake" to choose that moment
PalmaA private party organized by a bar in Biniaraix brought together numerous people in the village square during the Patrona festival, coinciding with the start of the Mare de Déu d'Agost festivities. The activity coincided with the inaugural speech, by Jaume Albertí, and caused the square to be practically full of people and tables when the neighbors and municipal representatives came out of mass at the village church.
The event also included an activity that the organizers named ‘The Lasagna Procession’, scheduled for 8 p.m., coinciding with the planned time for the official start of the festivities. The events generated complaints from numerous residents and also from MÉS per Sóller, which has denounced what it considers a lack of respect towards the residents and has called on the Town Hall to set "limits" in the face of such situations.
The party has "radically" rejected the spectacle that took place on Tuesday evening in the Biniaraix square, especially because it occurred in the midst of the village festival.
MÉS per Sóller considers that what happened represents "an absolute lack of respect" towards the residents of Biniaraix and has questioned whether newcomers can organize activities without taking into account the customs, traditions, and significant moments of the village.
“We are not a colony where they can do what they want, when they want, and where they want,” stated the party, which has called on the Sóller Town Hall to take measures and establish limits.
Neighbors' complaints
The episode also generated numerous complaints among the residents of Biniaraix, who expressed their displeasure at the celebration of the activity in the midst of the festivities and at the way it unfolded.
The protests occurred in a particularly delicate context, as the patron saint festivities concentrate a large part of the hamlet's social activity and have a strong community component.
The winery admits the error
The winery responsible for the activity has subsequently regretted what happened and assured that it never intended to interfere with the official events of the festivities nor to prevent neighbors and authorities from enjoying a special night.
In a statement published on its Instagram profile, the company has acknowledged that it made "a serious mistake" in choosing the moment and assessing the situation. It has also assured that it now understands how its actions could have been perceived by the residents.
The winery has "deeply" regretted the discomfort, frustration, and disappointment that, as it acknowledges, the activity caused, and has remarked that, despite everything, they had "no intention" of disrespecting Biniaraix, its neighbors, or its traditions. The company has taken responsibility for what it considers a mistake and has apologized to those who felt hurt or offended by what happened.
