A dolphin was found dead from unknown causes on Muro beach.

PalmA striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) has appeared on the coast of Mallorca, specifically on Muro beach, in the Común area. Lifeguards activated the corresponding action protocol, after the bathers themselves alerted the Emergency Services.

Biologists specializing in marine species and strandings traveled to the site to collect biometric samples, skin and muscle samples, teeth, and stomach contents, among others, which may be useful for future studies. However, in this case, the cause of death could not be determined, as the cetacean's body was in a very advanced state of decomposition.

Regarding possible causes, biologist Luis Señor ruled out that the animal had died from being hit by a boat and noted that, given its condition, death could have been caused by illness or natural causes, yet to be determined. The expert also noted that this is a common species in the Mediterranean and, therefore, does not believe it arrived from distant waters.
