PalmThe manager of Emaya, Lorenzo Morey, appeared this Friday before the Urban Planning and Environment Commission of Palma City Council, after the municipal company finalized a compensation agreement of approximately 400,000 euros with two employees of a union affiliated with Vox for their dismissal, which was motivated by alleged misconduct.

During his intervention, made at the request of several municipal groups and prior to next week's municipal plenary session, Morey explained that the dismissals were carried out in November 2022 and January and February 2023, during the course of the previous term. He said that the questions stem from "a conceptual error," since the agreements reached are "transactional agreements for the termination of contracts duly approved by the competent judicial bodies," and stressed that "in no case have out-of-court agreements been signed."

Respecting workers' rights

The manager emphasized that Emaya must respect data protection and the confidentiality of cases, especially given the public nature of the session. He asserted that the municipal company has always respected workers' rights and legal procedures, "seeking the most appropriate decisions and the least possible economic damage, reducing litigation, and promoting social peace."

Regarding whether Emaya's Board of Directors was previously informed of the decisions taken, Morey specified that this body "has broad powers and responsibilities delegated to management, including the right to resolve all types of legal proceedings and procedures," and noted that "referrals are only submitted to the Board for proposals."

He also noted that, following the request for information from the Board of Directors, Emaya's management provided all the required data to the competent body on October 9.

Morey also noted that, "under other presidencies and management of Emaya, in previous terms, transactional agreements were made without informing or reporting to the Board of Directors, in accordance with the company's power structure, including out-of-court settlements ratified before Tamib."

"Clientelistic practices"

The municipal groups of PSIB, MÁS, and Unidas Podemos (UP) in Palma City Council warned this Friday of what they consider "clientelistic practices" at Emaya and accused the PP and Vox of using the public company to protect party interests and related individuals.

The parties pointed out that the out-of-court settlements signed by the company's management with former employees linked to Vox, some of whom are being investigated for workplace harassment, "are a political and institutional scandal."

The left has criticized the fact that these decisions were made behind the back of the Board of Directors and asserts that they could imply irregular use of public funds to benefit alleged harassers.
