PalmaA woman who is a victim of gender-based violence was evicted this Tuesday from the home where she had been renting since 2018, in the Palma neighborhood of Santa Catalina. The Stop Evictions Mallorca platform has stated that the eviction of this person "was carried out even though a document was submitted this Monday to request the annulment of proceedings, and which was pending resolution".

According to the account of events by the anti-eviction organization, this process was initiated due to the sale of this property, which previously belonged to Servihabitat, who allegedly transferred it to a "local speculator" in the real estate sector.

Thus, they have criticized that Justice "protects an investor" who bought a home in Santa Catalina "at a bargain price", at the cost of evicting a vulnerable person.

Likewise, they have argued that this procedure should have been halted by the social shield decree, which protected vulnerable tenants from evictions and which was repealed in February of this year with the votes against from PP, Vox, Junts, and UPN.

At the same time, they pointed out that IB-Dona would initially offer the woman housing as an alternative due to her condition as a victim of gender-based violence, but, due to its proximity to her ex-partner's workplace, she ended up rejecting it. On the other hand, they have criticized that the City Council has not offered housing from the Municipal Housing Board.

In this way, the eviction was finally carried out, and the Palma City Council has offered the woman, according to the platform, a hostel as temporary accommodation for a few days, but they do not know when the subsidy for the costs can be extended, so they foresee that the next step could be an attempt to evict her from the hostel if payment ceases.
