Fewer trains: Mallorca trains will run on weekend schedules (with an additional service in the early morning)

SFM has modified the service schedules it had scheduled for this month of August, due to the works on the Greco Street overpass.

The intervention at this point in the rail network requires speed limits and single-track traffic throughout the month.

PalmMallorca Railway Services (SFM) has modified its scheduled service schedules for this August due to construction work on the Carrer del Greco overpass near Verge de Lluc station. The new schedules will be in effect from this Tuesday until Sunday, August 17, at the end of next week.

Last Friday, the 1st, SFM's summer schedules came into effect. These involve a slight reduction in frequencies to adapt supply to demand. Since last year, they have been applied only in August, unlike previous years when they were also applied during the second half of July.

This year, due to the start of work to remodel the overpass at the intersection with Carrer del Greco, next to Verge de Lluc station, SFM introduced minor changes to the summer timetables that operated last year.

The work at this point on the railway network requires speed limits and single-track traffic throughout August between Son Fuster and Polígono de Marratxí stations in both directions, which affects traffic, which is why these changes had to be made.

Both on Friday the 1st and today, Monday the 4th, there were service complications, with delays on many trains and some cancellations, with the resulting impact on commuters. From Friday the 5th to Sunday the 17th, on weekdays, the same schedules that operate on weekends will be in effect, with an additional reinforcement of three more early morning trains. Weekend schedules remain unchanged. Service operation

SFM reminds users that service operations at stations where traffic is required on a single track remain unchanged from what was reported last week.

During the month of August, all departures and arrivals at the following stations: Son Fuster, Son Cladera/El Viver, Virgen de Lucas, Puente de Inca, Puente de Inca Nou, and Polígono de Marratxí will operate from a single platform.

Between August 1 and 17 (inclusive), all traffic and stops at stations on this section (Son Fuster-Polígon de Marratxí) will be on track 2; from August 18 to 30 (inclusive), the operation will be reversed, and all traffic and stops at stations on the same section will be on track 1.

Remodeling

Last week, SFM began remodeling the railway overpass on Carrer del Greco, next to Verge de Lluc station. This complex and necessary project involves replacing the current overpass with a new structure to address the bridge's deterioration. This will also allow for a functional and aesthetic improvement to the street under the railway.

The overpass is in poor condition.

This overpass is suffering from deterioration. The structure has a very restricted clearance, preventing the circulation of vehicles and pedestrians under optimal safety conditions. The works will resolve these problems, increasing the available clearance, and widening the lower section, which will have a double lane for vehicle traffic and a sufficiently wide sidewalk.

The works were awarded for €889,430.69 (VAT excluded), financed with funds from the Insularity Factor provided for in the Special Regime of the Balearic Islands. The maximum period for execution will be six months.

SFM deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to users both last Friday and today, Monday, and wishes to extend its apologies to all those affected.
